Advent!

Christmas is approaching and there is a big push for Advent this year in Children's Ministry. Here is what my family has done for the past few years.

ADVENTure
My wife came up with idea to help get the family excited about Christmas! I think it is truly a God given idea and wanted to share it with others:

Every year we try to make Christmas a memorable and meaningful time where we focus on celebrating the gift of Christ Jesus. This seems to get increasingly more difficult over all the racket in our culture of Santa, elves, and the greedy attitude of what can I get for me. We want our kids to grow up to be generous givers, compassionate and kind. Humbly understanding the awesome gift of grace given to us by God. With that said, this year we are going on a Family Christmas ADVENTure to discover more about who Christ is. Each day in the month of December we will read from the Bible one of the names of Christ. Then we will do an activity that either helps us think about the meaning of the name or gives us an opportunity to share, give, or serve. I'd like to share this with you for FREE in the hopes that you would make Christ the center of your Christmas too. After all, Jesus is the reason for the season.

Blessings to your family,
Lydia

Drama Camp

Drama Camp at Mountain View Baptist Church was epic as we Kick'n It Old School with the Go Fish Guys! I had a group from my old church come up to help us rock it out! Thank you to the David and his family and Mrs. Lisa for all your love and support!  We had 33 kids and several awesome workers. Then on Friday we had 66 people show up for our performance. Thanks to Carol, Amanda, Grant, Abby, Kaitlyn, and Lydia for all your hard work! Last thanks to my wife for all your love support and servants heart.

Time with God

My family has been having morning devotions for the past three years now during breakfast. It is a great time for us to get together and focus on God as a family before we face the day. The book we are currently using is Jesus Calling for kids. Sarah Young the author takes a scripture verse and then writes from God's perspective to His children. Some people can get hung up and think that it is irreverent. If you are doing the devotions with you children and help lead the conversations with them I have seen this tool as a benefit and not a harm to our spiritual devotion as a family. Sarah is a masterful writer and love the creative talent God has given her for this amazing resource for families.

Friends and Servants of God!

One of our friends at Church is Kevin Chalupka. He works at Samaritan's Purse and invited us to come visit and tour the ministry. It was such an amazing day! God is so good! When we were done with the tour I came away humbled and feeling a little guilty for the things I complain and whine about on a daily basis. Franklin Graham is being used by God and has done an amazing job investing in others. Thank you Samaritan's Purse for all you do to help reach this world for Christ!

Servant Leadership

Servant Leadership is the example Jesus Christ gives us to follow. If you want to be first you must be last. Whatever you do to the least of these you do unto me. Love your neighbor as yourself. This concept is not new but it is hard to actually do in day to day life. I strive in my personal life to live this way and always fond myself coming up short.

Karl Bastian the Kidologist does this constantly. Kidology alone is a place to serve Children's Ministers. Karl all the time is seeking to place others first, helping their ministry and helping others grow spiritually. The Kidologist is one of a kind and it is an honor to have him as a friend. If you do not know about Kidology check it out at www.kidology.org

Take time to invest in those around you and serve others!
